[edit]If nothing else, this page needs some major copyediting. The punctuation and sentence structure make the article nearly unreadable in places:
He teamed with shortstop Alan Trammell since 1977 when both players were at Double-A Montgomery Biscuits, to form with Detroit one of the best shortstop-second baseman combination in MLB history.
In 1978, Whitaker won AL Rookie of the Year honors after hit .285 with 71 runs, and a respectable .361 on base percentage for a 21-years old.
Also, there are a lot of POV problems:
His one weakness was a virtual refusal to go back on putouts to the outfield.
On the bases, he had fine speed and good instincts.
These are the kind of statements that need to be backed up with numbers or quoted from experts. Also, I fixed a number of spelling errors and a bad wiki link, all of which have been reverted. I honestly don't feel as if I've cut much content from the page. All of the information is still there; it's just organized differently. As of now, I'm going to revert to my changes. If anyone would like to revert to the older article, please post something here as to why you think the original article is superior. At the very least, I think we should have an article that's gramatically sound.
According to http://www.baseball-almanac.com/asgbox/yr1985as.shtml , the NL won the 1985 All-Star game 6-1, not the AL. I've revised this. Jasonn 01:34, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Whitaker Field
[edit]In a baseball simulator, there is a fictional stadium called Witaker Field. I do not remember the name of that game. 67.188.172.165 22:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Number Retirement
[edit]After José Iglesias, there were debates on twitter & and on sportstalk whether or not it was appropriate for Iglesias to wear the number. Not sure of the best way to source that. Update: cited. --Chico129 (talk) 12:39, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
